How Amazon.in seller fees work in 2026
Amazon.in charges up to five fees on a sale: a referral fee, a closing fee, a weight handling fee, and for FBA a pick and pack fee and storage. Amazon adds 18% GST to each fee, then holds back 0.5% TCS and 0.1% TDS from your payout. Every number below comes from Amazon’s official fees page, checked on 14 September 2026.
Referral fee
The referral fee is a percentage of the total selling price, set by category and price band. Since 16 March 2026, more than 1,800 categories pay 0% on products priced up to ₹1,000. Some categories stop at ₹300 or ₹500. Above the band, the category rate applies to the whole price, not just the part above the threshold. That creates price cliffs: in the example below, pricing at ₹500 instead of ₹549 earns ₹22.23 more per unit.
Closing fee
A fixed fee per order, set by price band and fulfilment channel, effective 7 September 2026. Price includes any shipping charged to the customer. Fees exclude GST.
| Item price | FBA | Easy Ship | Self Ship | Seller Flex |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₹0 – ₹300 | ₹27 (select categories ₹21 or ₹14) | ₹2 | ₹20 | ₹7 |
| ₹301 – ₹500 | ₹23 (select categories ₹19 or ₹15) | ₹23 | ₹26 | ₹13 |
| ₹501 – ₹1,000 | ₹30 | ₹48 | ₹51 | ₹38 |
| Above ₹1,000 | ₹55 (select appliances ₹75) | ₹79 | ₹101 | ₹69 |
Weight handling fee
Charged per shipment on the higher of actual weight and volumetric weight, where volumetric weight in kg is length × breadth × height in cm ÷ 5,000. Rates below are for the Standard STEP level, effective 16 March 2026. Premium and Advanced sellers pay ₹2 to ₹6 less; Basic sellers pay ₹3 to ₹6 more. Self Ship has no weight handling fee because you pay the courier.
| Shipping weight | FBA regional | FBA national | Easy Ship | Seller Flex |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| First 500 g | ₹39 | ₹65 | ₹55 | ₹51 |
| 500 g to 1 kg | ₹54 | ₹85 | ₹75 | ₹71 |
| 1 kg to 2 kg | ₹78 | ₹122 | ₹112 | ₹108 |
| Each extra kg, 2 to 5 kg | ₹24 | ₹34 | ₹34 | ₹34 |
| Each extra kg above 5 kg | ₹13 | ₹18 | ₹18 | ₹18 |
FBA pick and pack, and storage
FBA charges a pick and pack fee per unit sold: ₹17 for standard items up to 1 kg, ₹5 for each additional kilogram up to 5 kg, and ₹2 for each additional 5 kg after that. Heavy and bulky items pay ₹26. Storage costs ₹50 per cubic foot per month.
GST, TCS and TDS
Amazon adds 18% GST to every fee, which GST-registered sellers claim back as input tax credit. Amazon also collects 0.5% GST TCS on the net taxable value of each sale and deducts 0.1% TDS under section 194-O. Neither is a cost: you claim TCS against your GST liability and TDS in your income tax return, but both reduce the cash you receive.
Worked example: a ₹549 skincare product on FBA
A face wash priced at ₹549 including 18% GST, packed at 180 g in a 16 × 5 × 4 cm box, sold through FBA at the Standard STEP level and shipped nationally, with a ₹110 product cost and ads at 15% of the price.
| Selling price | ₹549.00 |
|---|---|
| GST collected (18%) | −₹83.75 |
| Referral fee (9%) | −₹49.41 |
| Closing fee | −₹30.00 |
| Weight handling (0.18 kg, national) | −₹65.00 |
| FBA pick and pack | −₹17.00 |
| FBA storage (1 month) | −₹0.57 |
| Product, packaging, inbound and returns | −₹135.00 |
| Ads (15%) | −₹82.35 |
| Profit per unit | ₹85.93 (15.65% margin) |
GST on Amazon fees and ads is claimable, so it is not counted as a cost.

What fees does Amazon charge sellers in India?
Every Amazon.in order carries a referral fee, which is a percentage of the selling price that depends on the category, and a closing fee, which is a fixed amount by price band and fulfilment channel. Unless you ship the order yourself, Amazon also charges a weight handling fee based on the higher of actual and volumetric weight. FBA adds a pick and pack fee and monthly storage. Amazon adds 18% GST to every one of these fees.
Is there a zero referral fee on Amazon.in?
Yes. Since 16 March 2026, Amazon charges a 0% referral fee on products priced up to ₹1,000 in more than 1,800 categories. Some categories stop at ₹300 or ₹500 instead. Above that band the category rate applies to the entire selling price, so a product priced at ₹1,049 can pay far more in fees than the same product at ₹1,000.
How is the Amazon weight handling fee calculated?
Amazon uses the higher of actual weight and volumetric weight, where volumetric weight in kg is length × breadth × height in cm divided by 5,000. The first 500 g, 500 g to 1 kg and 1 kg to 2 kg bands each have a fixed fee. Above 2 kg every extra kilogram adds a charge, and above 5 kg a lower per-kilogram charge applies. FBA charges different regional and national rates, while Easy Ship and Seller Flex charge a flat rate.
Does Amazon charge GST on seller fees?
Yes, Amazon adds 18% GST to every seller fee. GST-registered sellers can claim it back as input tax credit, so this calculator treats it as recoverable rather than as a cost.
What are TCS and TDS on Amazon payouts?
Amazon collects 0.5% GST TCS on the net taxable value of your sales and deducts 0.1% income tax TDS under section 194-O. Both are held back from your payout. You claim TCS against your GST liability and TDS in your income tax return.
When did Amazon.in last change its fees?
Referral and weight handling fees changed on 16 March 2026. On 7 September 2026 closing fees rose by ₹1 for products priced up to ₹500 and by ₹3 above ₹500. PrimeScale last checked every fee on this page against Amazon’s official fees page on 14 September 2026.
What is an Amazon STEP level?
STEP is Amazon’s seller performance programme. New sellers start at Standard. Premium and Advanced sellers pay lower weight handling fees, and Basic sellers pay more.
